Who is Joe Abercrombie?
Joe Abercrombie is a British author known for his fantasy novels. He was born in 1974 and grew up in Lancaster, England. As a child, he attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where he enjoyed playing video games and creating imaginary maps. He later studied Psychology at Manchester University.
After university, Abercrombie moved to London and worked in the film industry as a freelance film editor. During this time, he decided to pursue his dream of writing a fantasy trilogy centered around a character named Logen Ninefingers. His first attempt at writing the trilogy was unsuccessful and quickly abandoned.
In 2001, Abercrombie started writing the trilogy again, this time with a more lighthearted approach. With the support of his family, he completed the first volume, titled “The Blade Itself,” in 2004. After facing rejection from several literary agencies, the trilogy was eventually picked up by Gillian Redfearn of Gollancz in 2005. “The Blade Itself” was published in 2006 and gained international success.
Abercrombie continued to write and publish books set in the same world and other worlds with the YA trilogy called the Shattered Sea series. His works have received critical acclaim and have been published in multiple countries.
